Hi all

I think it was almost a year ago I made my 1st post about getting into cycling but due to work commitments and so on I never got round to it. Fortunate a few weeks ago I purchased a Giant SCR3 from Roe valley cycles so that's the easy part out of the way

For now I've been getting up before work, so setting clock for around 6am and heading out on my own for a short 6 mile run, its going ok but I think I would struggle with any kind of group ride and the last thing I would want ...

The Four Masters Cycling Club is running the 3rd annual Knockalla Tour this Sunday 20th April. The event will be based at the Letterkenny Community Centre with sign on open from 8.45am. As normal there will be two groups leaving with the first group consisting of leisure cyclist of at 9.30am and the second group of experienced cyclist off at 10.00am.

Does anyone cross there cycling with running during the winter months, to make up for the lack of light? They say running ain't good for cyclists, but I think this isn't really an issue unless one was say a pro or top amature. I try to do both and only have found benefits. What does others think?

I have a lovely Dave LLoyd Stealth Time Trial bike for sale (minus wheels). This bike is in good condition and is ready to ride. It would suit a rider up to about 5 foot 8 inches tall.

Frame is Dave LLoyd Stealth aluminium with carbon aero forks. A very interesting and informative bike mechanics session was held by our FCC mechanical team last nite in the complex. Thanks again to Fergal and Ciaran for facilitating. I know Terry will also want to thank you guys as once again he got some real problems sorted!! (As a follow up to points raised last nite if anyone needs a 9-speed 12/27 cassette, I have one which I could let you have at rock bottom prices.)

Last nite also several other club men including yours truly were flying the FCC colours ...

Just a note to advise that a Bunch of hardy, but no less committed, club cyclists continue to grace the early Saturday morning roads, whilst most right minded people are still enjoying their beds. We leave from a variety of rendezvous points, which are dependant on route and weather conditions . Paddy McD ably advises the group the night before of Climate, wind direction and suggested route. Paddy does actually put the Met office to shame and has done on many an ill advised ...

After all the debate in recent weeks about the value of club runs never was this valued more by me than Saturday morning. Despite Fergal hackling about hidden turbo training (i wasnt) my first day back was to say the least a struggle. Cheers Ciaran for keeping the group in check and Frankie was a legend in gettin me out of carn and to at least The point inn where the good lady came to resuce me. The jaffa cakes worked and made me change my future choice of snack for the back pocket.

No Man Left Behind

Going through the Foyle Cycling site and I was just thinking that for new comers, or those who may be thinking of going out with the club. The 'being left behind' mentaility of new to cycling cyclists is all to known to us all. Foyle cycling promotes itself as a cycling club not a racing club and so shouldn't the no-man left behind be advertised somewhat to newbies? Just a thought?

Very emotive subject I know but what is your preference and why.

I prefer Campag mainly because I have always used it and never tried Shimano.

I also prefer that the brake and gear cables are hidden.

Anyone any thoughts???

There is a Reliability trial in Ballymena on Sunday organised by Ballymena Road Club. Is anyone interested in going??

Ballymena Road Club Reliability Trial will be held on Sunday, 28th January, 2007.

There is a choice of two runs - 75 miles or 50 miles leaving the club-rooms, 103 Railway Street, Ballymena, at 10.00 a.m.. Signing on will be from 9.15 a.m.. Refreshments will be provided after the run and parking and changing facilities are available.
